About the FSBS Network

An overview of PBGSBS's frozen semen production infrastructure across West Bengal

PBGSBS operates three Frozen Semen Bull Stations — at Haringhata (Nadia), Beldanga (Murshidabad) and Salboni (Paschim Medinipur) — together housing 330 high-genetic-merit bulls of indigenous and crossbred cattle. Each station runs a state-of-the-art frozen semen laboratory paired with a dedicated quality-control laboratory, and is graded by the Central Monitoring Unit, DAHD, Government of India.

The Haringhata and Salboni stations are both graded "A" and are listed within the top eight elite semen stations of India. Together the three stations have a combined capacity for production of more than 71 lakh doses of frozen semen straw per annum covering Pure Sahiwal, Pure and Crossbred Jersey, Crossbred Holstein Friesian and Gir breeds — the germplasm backbone of the State's AI programme.

Frozen Semen Bull Station — Haringhata

Nadia · NPCBB + NDP-I + Rashtriya Gokul Mission

🧬

Haringhata, Nadia

Established 2002  ·  CMU-DAHD Grade A

The structural framework of the modern bull semen station and its specialised laboratories were fundamentally established and funded as part of the National Project on Cattle and Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB) in 2002. The station underwent massive technical modernisation explicitly funded under National Dairy Plan-I (NDP-I) and Rashtriya Gokul Mission.

Designed for a capacity of 150 high-genetic-merit bulls with tested disease-free status for production of frozen semen straws used in Artificial Insemination of cattle. With a state-of-the-art Frozen Semen Laboratory, a dedicated Quality Control Laboratory and 150 acres of green fodder land, this station — graded by the Central Monitoring Unit, DAHD, Govt. of India as "A" — sits within the top eight elite Semen Stations of India. It has a capacity for production of more than thirty lakh doses of Frozen Semen Straw of Pure Sahiwal, Pure and Crossbred Jersey, Crossbred Holstein Friesian and Gir bulls per annum.

About the grading. The Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India, periodically inspects and grades every Frozen Semen Bull Station in the country. Grade "A" is the highest rating and is awarded only to stations that meet the most stringent standards on infrastructure, herd-health management, semen quality and biosecurity.
