WELCOME TO PASCHIM BANGA GO-SAMPAD BIKASH SANSTHA

Brimming with huge vista of hope and aspirations to enhance milk production in our State with the mission to improve the qualitative and quantitative breed of bovine population, Paschim Banga Go-Sampad Bikash Sanstha (PBGSBS), a registered Society, was formed as State Implementing Agency under the aegis of the Animal Resources Development Department, Government of West Bengal on the 28th day of January, 2002. PBGSBS provides Artificial Insemination (AI) & related services at doorstep of farmer with best of the breeding inputs available, at least cost and to improve the existing technology of breeding through extensive research and development in the fields of AI with strict quality control.

PBGSBS is determined to improve the rural economy through upgraded technologies, by improving the productive level of the cattle & buffalo and to form a bridge between the NAIP, ABIPSS, State Cattle & Buffalo breeding operations and farmers of the State. With the organized networks PBGSBS has the means to maintain and supply quality breeding inputs & services, and stand committed to the cause.


Major Contributions

  • Core Service
    Artificial Insemination using frozen semen for all breedable cattle with the aim of making Zero Milk Deficit state.
  • 90% Assurance
    Use of sexed frozen semen with 90% assurance of female calf born.
  • Self-Reliance
    Around 60 lakh quality frozen semen doses are produced annually at the three certified/graded semen stations operated by the Sanstha, making the state self-reliant in this sector.
  • Haringhata & Salboni
    At the advanced laboratories located in Haringhata and Salboni, high-genetic-merit cattle are being produced through In-vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer techniques.
  • Haringhata & Kotulpur
    The organization has initiated two projects for the production of frozen buck semen for artificial insemination of goat at Haringhata and Kotulpur with Goat Mother Farm at Kotulpur.
  • 81 MVUs
    Through 81 Mobile Veterinary Units, veterinary care, vaccination, and awareness of animal health are being provided in the remote areas of the state.
  • ₹ 7.15 Cr / month
    The State Government provides monthly performance incentive to about 13,000 self-employed artificial insemination and vaccination workers, incurring a monthly expenditure of about Rs. 7.15 Cr. per month.
  • Innovation
    Sanstha has started the Genomic Selection Program for Dairy Cattle, an innovative approach for strategic and forward-thinking development towards self-reliant state in Milk Production and Net Zero initiative for Carbon Credit.
  • Kalyani
    Establishment of state of art Genomics and Molecular Biology Laboratory (GMBL) at Kalyani has been the major breakthrough in this field.

Increasing the population and productivity of milch cows and buffaloes has been the prime focus. And to cover the enormous colossal task of reaching out to over 345 Blocks of our State, the Sanstha with the limited manpower, but with the aims and aspirations well set, has set forth the various programmes with 7,779 trained private Artificial Insemination workers.
