Bull Mother Farm

As part of National Project on Cattle and Buffalo Breeding, three Bull Mother Farm were established in the State, namely 1) BMF Salboni, Pashim Medinipur, 2) BMF Haringhata, Mohanpur, Nadia and 3) BMF Kalyani, Nadia. Government of India has recognized this State for producing Gir & Sahiwal breed for breeding purpose.

The main objectives of the Bull Mother Farm are:

• Produce good quality genetically superior bulls of Sahiwal & Gir breed.
• Production of different cross-bred bulls for use in FSBS.
• Production of bulls through Embryo Transfer Technology.
• Evaluation of performance of Sahiwal and Gir cattle in our climate.

BMF, HARINGHATA:

Presently, 483 animals including 110 animals for Embryo Transfer housed at Bull Mother Farm, Haringhata which are mainly of Pure bred Sahiwal. This is probably the largest conservation project of Sahiwal cows. The farm produces 110 calves during the year. During this year, Bull Mother Farm, Haringhata has supplied 526 no. of bulls to different Frozen Semen Bull Stations within the state and 98 no. of bulls to other states from 2007-08 to 2022-23. For scientific disposal of solid farm waste, one vermi-compost Unit is established out of R.K.V.Y fund. One Feed Mixing Unit is also established from R.K.V.Y fund for the production of good quality concentrated cattle feed for the Farm with the production of 982 MT during 2022-23.

BMF, SALBONI:

Bull Mother Farm, Salboni established at the campus of Composite State Animal Husbandry Farm, Salboni, Pashim Medinipur. Mainly, elite Cows of Gir breed are maintained in this farm. Beside Gir breed, Pure Jersey and Holstein Friesian Breeds are also maintained. Presently, 286 numbers of cattle housed in this BMF.  Gir cows and heifers with a high genetic merit were procured from Gujarat State through Central Herd Registration Scheme. For scientific disposal of solid farm waste, one vermi-compost Unit is established out of R.K.V.Y fund. One Feed Mixing Unit is also established from R.K.V.Y fund for the production of good quality concentrated cattle feed for the Farm.

BMF, KALYANI:

The Bull Mother Farm, State Livestock Farm, Kalyani, Nadia was established to meet up the enhanced requirement of Frozen semen straws and replacement of exhausted Bulls of Frozen Semen Stations at this State. The main objectives of this Bull Mother Farm will be to established a well managed Breeding Farm, to supply proven sires of different generic architect to the existing Frozen Semen Stations of this State. This Bull Mother Farm, Kalyani will maintain 400 nos. of adult cows of different breeds under the Breeding Policy of this State. This Station stepped to start on 6th May, 2016 and the present Herd strength as on 16th Aug, 2021 is 284 nos. of different Breeds.
