Frozen semen technology has been a breakthrough in Cattle and Buffalo development programme. Deep freezing of semen increases life span of spermatozoa as they go in suspended animation. It facilitates transportation to any distinct and remotest place under liquid nitrogen safely and without deterioration in quality. Loss of semen is reduced with optimum utilization of bulls through this technology.
Sanstha is running three Sperm Stations namely Frozen Semen Bull Station, Haringhata, Frozen Semen Bull Station, Salboni & Sperm Station Beldanga. All the three Stations are awarded with the IS/ISO: 9001:2008 Certificate by the Bureau of Indian Standards, Government of India.
Out of three existing Frozen Semen Stations, two Stations located at Haringhata & Salboni are being strengthened for two fold increase of Frozen Semen Straw production under National Dairy Plan-I.
All the three Sperm Stations are highly sophisticated with modern technology approach and can be counted amongst the excellent stations in the country. The machineries and equipments of these three stations are of international standards. FSBS Haringhata and Salboni are accredited as Grade-'A' and Sperm Station, Beldanga as Grade - 'B' by the Central Monitoring Team, Govt. of India

SEMEN PRODUCTION
The Sperm Stations are producing quality Frozen Semen and 22 Frozen Semen Banks (1 Central, 3 Regional and 18 District Level) are handling the distribution of the Frozen Semen Straws in the State. During 2013-14, 35.88 Lakh doses of Frozen Semen Straws are produced in three Sperm Stations out of which semen doses are distributed to the field units as per breeding policy. The additional requirement of straws is met up through procurement from reputed sperm stations outside the State.
